Has anyone got any advice/experience on a US citizen obtaining a uk visa ?

My Son has a girlfriend from US, they have been together for 2 years now but have had to spend time in other countries to be together, ie Australia. They are now both home ( she is in US and my son is here in the UK - both very love sick and unhappy). She would like to work here and spend time with my son just like any normal couple, this is proving to be very difficult.Has anyone got any advice/experience on a US citizen obtaining a uk visa ?
We are currently in the process

Tier 1 General Visa

Her first step would be to apply via http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/ and

http://www.workpermit.com/uk/uk-immigrat鈥?/a>

Worldbridges website is another great up to the minute news %26amp; info.

If she has a parent or grandparent that is a member of the EU she may qualify for a Ancestry visa. This also applies to commonwealth countries to the UK.

Step one is the points system

The process has a points system, which includes education level or degree (which can be anywhere from an aupairs to electricians to Ph d's, as it also factors in jobs needed to be filled)

Points for English speakers

Points for age

70- 75 points, I believe qualifies

Another requirement is you must hold a balance $8000.00USD in a Checking or Savings account for 3 consecutive months prior to application. No exceptions, they are dead serious. No stock, 401K, or cash holdings matter, unless it is held in a bank, that's the rule.

Also apply for positions w/Co's that have branches in the UK, it's worth a shot.

Since you mentioned she was love sick, some people opt for a pet.

Resist the urge %26amp; adopt or purchase when you get there, because there are a series of blood tests %26amp; drama 6 months prior to entering the UK or you must quarantine for 6 mos.

For example, we started our process mid June, so we can leave no later than mid Jan 09 .There are privately run / family owned quarantine kennels ( I found one in Chingford) but we opted to wait as it's just too much stress %26amp; $$$.

Good luck to the lovebirds :^)
